The way we do things – how we “use ourselves”, as Alexander would say – affects the results we get. The Alexander Technique is a means of improving that “use”. And, remarkably, improvement in how we use ourselves brings not only greater ease but also greater freedom and deeper connection with everything we love.
- to become better at whatever they are “using” their body to do (e.g., playing a musical instrument, dancing, sports)
- to relieve pain
- to increase body awareness/mindfulness
- to improve posture

An Alexander Technique teacher uses gentle touch combined with verbal instruction to stimulate the student to release excess tension – often this is tension the student was completely unaware of. Releasing excess tension begins the process of allowing the natural reflexive system to wake up. With increased awareness and thought, habits that stop the flow of reflexive movement can be dissolved. Students practice by using verbal instruction to continue the releasing of habitual habits and stress. With practice, students bring more and more ease, poise and balance to their lives.
Aila Juvonen became a certified Alexander teacher in 1994, and has been working ever since to share the profound changes she herself experiences using the Alexander Technique.

Through Alexander Technique as taught by Aila Juvonen, I am learning a process that helps me to free myself from the habits which cause most of my physical and mental discomforts.
